Bei der Bearbeitung werden zunächst die Begriffe Politainment, Wahlkampf und Medienwahlkampf genauer erläutert und definiert um einen simplen aber gleichzeitig elementaren Einstieg in das Thema zu gewähren. Nach Beendigung des definitorisch-erläuternden Teiles, der quasi einleitenden Charakter besitzt, beginnt der Hauptteil. Im Hauptteil werden die Besonderheiten des amerikanischen Wahlkampfes aufgegriffen und mit dem deutschen verglichen und analytisch gegenüber gestellt. Dabei werden die Strategien des modernen Wahlkampfes (Personalisierung, Privatisierung und unfavourable campaigning“) besonders fokussiert.
Der analytische Teil beschäftigt sich abschließend mit den Wahlkampfjahren 2002, 2005, 2009 und prognostisch mit 2013. Anhand dieser Wahlkämpfe für den deutschen Bundestag soll aufgezeigt werden, in welcher Weise sich der Wahlkampf und die jeweiligen Kampagnen in knapp 10 Jahren entwickelten und wo die Reise eventuell noch hinführen könnte.
